Its a catchy enough song…  definitely provides some eye candy… meets most hip-hop standards for a decent video.

Why do you think it never caught on?

Over the past few weeks we have seen a plethora of our favorite stars with freshly shorn locks… and we love it.

Say what you will, but it takes guts to rock a razored ‘do… and it is by far less generic than flowing waves and a side swept bang.  Each lady has brought such individuality  to their version of cropped tops that we can wait to see the next incarnation of this trend.

I just wish that more people took it to heart…

Every year there seems to be a trend that, begs pleads to be used sparingly, and for some reason no one hears its cries.  This year folks, that trend is the harem pant.  Love it or hate it its here, and from the looks of it, not going anywhere too soon. We’ve seen it everywhere, from  Ciara to Sienna Miller, Rachel Roy to  Naomi Campbell. Celebrities have been using them as an alternative to their typical formal frocks, as well as for casual jaunts through the airport.

Sometimes it looks like haute couture,  and sometimes… bad people happen to good clothes.

Harsh? Maybe.  Wrong?  Definitely Not!  We’ve all admired someone wearing a fantastic outfit that either wouldn’t suit us or just wasn’t our style.  Fortunately most of us have been wise enough to steer clear.  But, as always, there are the others… They notice the poor defenseless garment hanging on the rack in all its trendy glory.  Then… they actually buy… and wear it.  

The harem pants is definitely fresh and of the moment, but not for the faint at heart or the fashion challenged.  We love you here at Flashing Lights… please don’t be one of those bad people that happen to perfectly good clothes.

Addiction, Chico’s 6th album is his first since 2003′s Free.  Despite having a recent single on the Beauty Shop soundtrack and staring in the Tyler Perry play “Why Did I Get Married,” DeBarge has managed to remain under everyone’s radar.  Six kids, getting stabbed, and an addiction to pain killers and heroin might do that to you though.  Chico’s sex appeal was undeniable, but a sexy, bad boy image at 42 may not work the way it did for him n ’87… and ’97.  C’mon… we’re still cringing at the train wreck that is Bobby Brown. Debarge has already proved that he can emerge from extended absences unscathed, but will this album be infused with real life experiences, sung with the passion and soul that we’ve grown to love him for?

As for Al B. Sure! ,  I was very unsure when I heard he was trying to make a come back. During his most recent  national television appearance on MTV’s Rock the Cradle, his aspiring R&B singing son Lil’ B. Sure failed to live up to his legacy.  Surely this meant that Al B. – the original – still had a chance…  in his mind that is.  Though Al isn’t quite the unibrowed, denim jacket wearing, curly haired heartthrob he was in the late 80′s,  his first single titled “I love It”  is catchy and remenicent of the early ’90′s.    Despite a strong first single that hit the Radio & Records Urban AC chart at #33 in one week, the singer has more obstacles than chart topping to over come in order to make a successful come back. Al B. has been openly censured by his son Quincy Brown, who describes Sure! as an absentee dad and attributes his strong upbringing to his step-dad Diddy.  Sure! will need to persuade the public that he is the sexy, good guy that we remember, minus the unibrow… plus 30 40 50 pounds.  The lord knows there ain’t nothing sexy about a black man not taking care of his kids.    Al B. Sure! better start doing some Feed the Kids press before the album drops.

Sure!’s  ”Honey I’m Home” album is due in stores at the end of June.

With lofty comparisons to the greats like Stevie and Marvin, and branding yourself the voice of your generation, I can’t help but wonder if this new album will live up to his own hype.  Trey Songz has all the makings of a great artist, his vocals are on point, he’s definitely eye candy, and his dancing isn’t as awkward as some other r&b singers. Despite these awesome talents – his voice and style is just not that distinctive. I swear, every time I hear a Trey Songz song I wonder, ” Who is that?!? That song’s cool.” When you hear an Usher song…. you know its Usher. And yes, even he took a while to develop – but I always knew it was him.

Today’s music industry doesn’t have time to wait for you to develop and make your mark. Most’s attention spans are short than tweets these days –  and to be great you have to transcend that. Perhaps, with this album he marked his spot in this industry, making me interested in buying his album instead of changing the station when a lukewarm single hits the radio.  Five minutes out of the spotlight and no one will remember you. Step it up Trey, otherwise you will be singing songz with no one listening.

Or he could date an A list celebrity, we might remember that…
