Trey Songz Steps It Up?

This August Trey Songz’s new effort, Ready,  is supposed to hit stores.  But in a day and age where music sales are struggling, and every dollar you can hold on to is worth keeping, you have to ask yourself, “Is this purchase worth it?”

With lofty comparisons to the greats like Stevie and Marvin, and branding yourself the voice of your generation, I can’t help but wonder if this new album will live up to his own hype.  Trey Songz has all the makings of a great artist, his vocals are on point, he’s definitely eye candy, and his dancing isn’t as awkward as some other r&b singers. Despite these awesome talents – his voice and style is just not that distinctive. I swear, every time I hear a Trey Songz song I wonder, ” Who is that?!? That song’s cool.” When you hear an Usher song…. you know its Usher. And yes, even he took a while to develop – but I always knew it was him.

Today’s music industry doesn’t have time to wait for you to develop and make your mark. Most’s attention spans are short than tweets these days –  and to be great you have to transcend that. Perhaps, with this album he marked his spot in this industry, making me interested in buying his album instead of changing the station when a lukewarm single hits the radio.  Five minutes out of the spotlight and no one will remember you. Step it up Trey, otherwise you will be singing songz with no one listening.

Or he could date an A list celebrity, we might remember that…
